Transform Your Kitchen with Cabinet Paint: Painting Kitchen Cabinets with Benjamin Moore Paint from Color Bloc

Quickly Transform Your Kitchen with Cabinet Paint

Refinishing a kitchen can feel intimidating, but with some cabinet paint and a vision, you can shorten the kitchen remodel timeline from months to days! Every homeowner knows that a kitchen remodel can be one of the most intensive renovations.

A kitchen remodel is no easy feat, from new cabinets and countertops to appliances to potentially rerouting plumbing and electrical lines. If you’re craving a change in the heart of the home but don’t have the necessary ingredients for such a massive undertaking, painting your cabinets could be just the right project for you!

Painting Kitchen Cabinets

Preparing for this project will be the most time-consuming part of painting kitchen cabinets, but all your hard work will be worth it in the end. Follow these steps, and you can have a new kitchen in just a few hours.

  1. Remove cabinet doors. Take each door off its hinges and pull out each drawer. Label each cabinet box, drawer, and door with corresponding numbers to help you match them all back up at the end.
  2. Strip old paint. If your cabinets are already bare, then you can skip this step. Otherwise, use a paint stripper and a metal scraper to pick away the old color. Starting with a fresh surface will ensure your new paint sticks around.
  3. Sand and fill holes. After removing the top layer, thoroughly sand the cabinets to get a smooth surface. Then use a wood filler to fill in any holes or dents left behind and sand again once the filler is dry.
  4. Prime. Primer is the secret ingredient to any successful paint project. Use a quality primer, like Benjamin Moore’s Fresh Start® High-Hiding All Purpose Primer, and let it dry completely before applying color. Primer is crucial to ensuring the longevity of any paint project, but it is vital in high-use areas like the kitchen.
  5. Paint! You’ve made it to the most exciting step! Choose a durable lacquer, like a shade from the Advance® line from Benjamin Moore, to get a long-lasting finish. You may find it easier to apply the paint with a microfiber or foam paint roller instead of a brush.
  6. Let dry. Leave your new cabinets to dry in a well-ventilated area for at least 24 hours. The longer the paint has to dry, the less likely it is to chip or peel during use.
  7. Reinstall. After waiting ample time for your new cabinets to dry, use the numbers you wrote in step one to match up each cabinet box with its corresponding door and drawers. Screw the pieces back together and finish the look with new cabinet and drawer pulls.

With just a few hours of effort, you can successfully reimagine the entire aesthetic of your kitchen!
